Moving to a new country is always associated with a lot of anxiety, fears and worries. Many questions need to be answered quickly and, preferably, efficiently.
How to adapt to the new situation? Shall I rent or buy a home? An apartment or a house? In the city or in the suburbs? In Toronto or Oakville, Burlington or Hamilton? What about work? Which school will the children go to? How does the healthcare system work? Where to find a family doctor? These are just a fraction of what you need to think about and what you will have to do in the first few months upon your arrival.
My family went through this challenge eight years ago, and I can tell from experience that every piece of information is valuable, and every help is needed, especially when it comes to deciding where to find a home. After all, home is the place where we escape from all the troubles, worries and annoyances of the modern world. Home is the place where you are expected, where you are loved, where you are safe and comfortable. For children, the home is the most important place, their entire world, open and crystal clear. A home with loving parents where children feel safe and confident that tomorrow will bring another happy and joyful day. Home is the place where the most important events of life happen, where any problems are solved, where people get close together. And for those who have moved to a new country, a cozy home is so important for adapting faster to new conditions, an opportunity to make new connections.
That is why buying a home should be given a lot of attention. My family chose Burlington, Ontario because it is a cozy, small town with great amenities. It is well-positioned: at the same distance, just 40 miles, from Toronto and the border with the United States, 30 miles from Niagara Falls and its beautiful wine region. Burlington has many good schools, parks, stadiums, and playgrounds. For the fans of hiking, Burlington is a real paradise! Six parks in the area let you enjoy hiking with breathtaking views of the Escarpment, plenty of cycling paths, and in winter, ski trails. Burlington is located on the world-famous Lake Ontario, which, to be honest, is more like a sea. In summer, you can spend time with the whole family on beautiful beaches or walk along the lake. The lakeside trails stretch for miles and are ideal for hiking, roller skating or cycling.
We bought a house in Burlington, for these and many other reasons, which I can gladly share with you, if you are interested.
